The Ten-Minute Route Walk
KEY POINT — Use a simple route to practice walking, turning, and returning to a steady finish.
Starting Position
Arrange a short route beside stable support. Mark one or two corners with objects you can see. Set ten minutes if useful.
Step-by-Step Movement Instructions
- 1Minutes 1 and 2: begin at the first corner with three breaths, small ankle movements, and a weight shift.
- 2Minutes 3 to 6: walk one side of the route with short forward steps and pauses.
- 3Minutes 7 and 8: use tiny lifted steps to turn at a corner, then continue along the next side.
- 4Minutes 9 and 10: shorten the route, slow down, and finish with both feet supported.
Practice Duration
Ten minutes total, including preparation, turns, pauses, and the finish.
Breathing Cue
Natural breathing. Keep a pace at which a full sentence is comfortable.
Supported & Seated Variation (Path A)
Stay beside the counter. Seated: trace the route with small foot taps and pauses.
What to Notice During Practice
You can see the next part of the route before you move.
A turn feels rushed, the path becomes unclear, or your balance changes.
Sit down safely if you feel light-headed or unsteady. There is never any reason to push through pain or discomfort.
