The Five-Minute Interval Walk
KEY POINT — Alternate short walking intervals with pauses so the session stays manageable.
Starting Position
Choose a clear path beside support. You may begin seated and stand only when ready. Set a five-minute timer if useful.
Step-by-Step Movement Instructions
- 1Minute 1: settle your stance or chair. Take three ordinary breaths and check your energy.
- 2Minutes 2 and 3: walk with short familiar steps. Pause whenever you need to.
- 3Minute 4: stop with both feet down. Make two small weight shifts or remain seated.
- 4Minute 5: slow down, take three ordinary breaths, and finish with control.
Practice Duration
Five minutes total, including pauses. A shorter session is fine.
Breathing Cue
Natural breathing. You should be able to speak comfortably.
Supported & Seated Variation (Path A)
Walk beside the counter or complete the whole interval seated with small foot movements.
What to Notice During Practice
The pause should leave you ready to continue, not drained.
Pain, dizziness, unusual breathlessness, or loss of control.
Sit down safely if you feel light-headed or unsteady. There is never any reason to push through pain or discomfort.
