Parting the Clouds

Open the arms comfortably as you step sideways.

Starting Position

Stand with a clear lateral path, feet apart. Keep stable support within reach.

Step-by-Step Movement Instructions

  1. 1Move weight right, then place the left foot a short distance left.
  2. 2As the foot settles, float the arms forward and outward. Keep them at or below shoulder height.
  3. 3Bring the right foot closer without touching the feet together. Let the arms lower.
  4. 4Reverse the direction, stepping right and opening gently again.

Practice Duration

Three steps each direction. One round is enough to learn.

Breathing Cue

Breathe in as the arms open and out as they lower, if comfortable.

Supported & Seated Variation (Path A)

Hold a counter and move one arm only. Seated: omit the step and use a smaller opening.

What to Notice During Practice

Open the arms without arching your lower back.

When to Stop Immediately:

Shoulder or neck discomfort, dizziness, or loss of steadiness.

Sit down safely if you feel light-headed or unsteady. There is never any reason to push through pain or discomfort.

“You can leave out the opening and practice the sideways step on its own.”
