Returning to Practice After a Missed Week

By Sophia Lin·September 28, 2026·4 min read

Life happens. A family visit, a minor cold, or a week of disrupted sleep can easily interrupt your 28-day practice. The most common mistake people make is trying to "make up" for lost days by doubling their practice time.

Doubling sessions creates muscle fatigue and raises the likelihood of stumbling. In Tai Chi JingFlow, the rule is: never double up. When you return, you simply pick up with a familiar, gentle session.

In fact, after a full week away, do not resume where you left off. Drop down one level: if you were on Day 14, begin your return with Day 6 or a 3-minute seated review.

Let your joints and nervous system reacquaint themselves with the movements. The 28-day plan is a cycle you can repeat, not an unchangeable calendar deadline.

Key Takeaways for Practice

  • Never double your practice minutes after missed days.
  • Resume with a familiar, easy session to rebuild movement confidence.
  • If returning from illness, consult your physician before standing.
  • Remember: the numbers on the days are learning guides, not deadlines.
