The Three-Breath Reset

Close a session gently with three slow breaths and a soft arm float.

Starting Position

Stand beside a chair or counter you can hold if needed, or sit in a sturdy chair. Place both feet flat and let your arms rest at your sides.

Step-by-Step Movement Instructions

  1. 1Breathe in slowly through your nose and let your arms float up to about shoulder height, palms facing down.
  2. 2Breathe out slowly through your mouth and let your arms float back down to your sides.
  3. 3Breathe in again and let your arms rise a little lower than before, only as far as feels easy.
  4. 4Breathe out and lower your arms, letting your shoulders drop and soften.
  5. 5Take one final slow breath in and out, then stand or sit still for a moment before moving on.

Practice Duration

Three slow breaths, about one minute, at the end of any session.

Breathing Cue

Slow, natural breaths. Never hold your breath or force the exhale.

Supported & Seated Variation (Path A)

Do the whole reset seated in a sturdy chair, with your feet flat on the floor. If raising your arms feels tiring, keep them resting on your thighs and simply follow the three breaths.

What to Notice During Practice

Notice whether your breathing has settled and your shoulders feel softer than when you started.

When to Stop Immediately:

Dizziness, lightheadedness, chest discomfort, unusual breathlessness, or any sharp pain.

Sit down safely if you feel light-headed or unsteady. There is never any reason to push through pain or discomfort.

“The Three-Breath Reset takes about one minute, works seated or standing, and is a gentle closing ritual for seniors finishing any Tai Chi JingFlow session.”
