The Mindful Step Turn

Turn with small lifted steps instead of twisting a planted knee.

Starting Position

Stand beside a fixed counter with feet hip-width apart. Check the floor in the new direction.

Step-by-Step Movement Instructions

  1. 1Look where you want to turn. Keep one hand on support if needed.
  2. 2Move weight to the right foot. Lift the left foot clear and replace it slightly toward the new direction.
  3. 3Settle onto the left foot, then lift and replace the right to follow.
  4. 4Continue with tiny lifted steps until you face the new direction. Leave space between your feet.

Practice Duration

One quarter-turn each way. Pause before repeating.

Breathing Cue

Breathe normally during every step.

Supported & Seated Variation (Path A)

Keep within reach of a long counter. If turning is uncertain, practice stationary shifts instead.

What to Notice During Practice

Lift each foot before it changes direction.

When to Stop Immediately:

Dizziness, knee twisting, pain, or difficulty placing a foot.

Sit down safely if you feel light-headed or unsteady. There is never any reason to push through pain or discomfort.

“Go slowly. Lift the foot before changing where it points, and keep the feet on separate tracks.”
